Designing public art at the River Overlook

Under the leadership of artist and designer Sam Ero-Phillips, apprentices in JXTA’s Environmental Design Lab have been working on designing the overlook to the Mississippi River on the 26th Avenue Pier over the last few years in collaboration with 4RM+ULA and Ten x Ten. Through research and community engagement, they developed designs for the overlook’s railings that include the origin story of the river and the city itself, addressing nature, urbanization, revolution, and reconciliation in the designs. This will be a new place, at the end of the 26th Ave Greenway, for Northside residents to connect with the Mississippi River.
